On Page Site optimization
In order to help your website or blog rank well on the search engines (the organic or natural engines), we need to optimize it a bit.
What I mean by optimize is that we want to clean up your site and have certain keywords in certain places so that the search engines will know what the pages of your website are about and will rank them better.
There is a saying in marketing that "You can get an 80 percent of the results with 20 percent of the work." I'm going to show you the 20 percent of the work needed to get the 80 percent of the results.
The things that will help you the most with the traditional engines with respect to optimizing your site are:
Clean up your header tags. These are of the tags at the top of the actual source code of your web site. Make sure you have your best keywords listed in your title. Some engines only register the first eight keywords or so, so make sure you have your best keywords listed first if possible. For instance, if you are a high-end veterinarian in the Beverly Hills area looking for poodle clients here is how not to write the title in your meta tag:
Title Tag:
<TITLE>Joe’s Practice – Home Page</TITLE>
This kind of title tag happens all the time and gives you no help at all with the search engines. Make sure your keywords are in there. For example:
<TITLE>Joe’s Poodle Veterinarian - Animal Doctor</TITLE>
If you are the kind of business that caters to local clients, be sure to put your city in the title tag so that you come up in search engine inquiries for your area. For example:
<TITLE>Hollywood, LA, Beverly Hills Poodle Veterinarian – Joe’s -Animal Doctor</TITLE>
Du e to some recent changes at Google it may be best to try to keep your title tags at no more than 65-70 Characters.
